AVRA CITY boutique HOTEL - RENOVATION

The Avra City Boutique Hotel is situated in a historic 20th-century building in the heart of Chania. It is adjacent to the Municipal Garden, with its main façade facing Tzanakaki Street. The design focuses on enhancing the existing structure, renovating the interior, and modernizing the building to meet the high standards of contemporary tourist accommodations.

The hotel features a ground floor housing the reception area, bar, and restaurant, along with a conference room. Above this, five additional floors contain 27 guest rooms. These accommodation spaces are located in a newer section of the building that connects with the original structure, designed to preserve and highlight the building's historical significance. The hotel is completed by a central inner courtyard that adds to its charm.

The defining characteristic of the original building is its neoclassical style, which has been maintained and accentuated throughout the design process, both in the façades and in the details of the interior.

On the facade level, in order to preserve the classical character of the buildings, new colours were chosen in the existing shades. In addition, in order to enhance its special architectural characteristics, the facade was emphasized by appropriate lighting after a corresponding study.

The design of the interiors of the accommodation refers to the luxury of the neoclassical architecture itself by introducing its characteristics in design details. In order to preserve this character, it was decided to make the minimum interventions in the reception area, focusing on changing the ceiling and adapting it to the lighting study that was made for the appropriate diffusion of light in the space and its enhancement.

The private areas of the hotel were treated in the same way. In addition, furniture was designed which is characterized by the element of wood which was chosen to be combined with either earthy fabric (bed headboards) or marble (elements of boudoir, storage areas and mirror furniture in private spaces).
