KYDON GYM

In the basement of the "KYDON" Hotel in Chania, a former storage area has been redefined as a modern hub for wellness and physical exercise. The new architectural proposal transforms a closed, inert space into an environment that actively supports the guests' "wellness experience," integrating physical exercise and relaxation into the daily routine of hospitality.
The design is organized around a unified workout area, flanked by changing rooms, modern sanitary facilities, and support areas such as lockers. The project is complemented by a specially designed bicycle parking area at the hotel entrance, which acts as an extension of the wellness philosophy beyond the interior. The "bike zone" encourages a more experiential relationship between the guest and the city, promoting movement and exploration as part of the overall stay.
The layout follows a clean, functional logic, allowing for smooth user flow and a clear organization of individual zones.
Materiality plays a central role in the composition. Solid wood in natural shades clads surfaces, lending warmth and intimacy, while walls finished with a technique reminiscent of polished cement in earthy tones create a serene environment. Travertine marble is a dominant element, integrated into selected points to enhance the space’s timelessness and sense of luxury.
Bronze-tinted mirrors are strategically placed, visually multiplying the space and enhancing its depth while contributing to a more sophisticated atmosphere. In the bathrooms, marble sinks complete the overall material palette, reinforcing the design's cohesion.
